📜 Content

In various regions of Japan, there are multifunctional roadside facilities called "道之驛" (Michi no Eki), which serve as places for travelers to stop and rest during their journeys. The Michi no Eki Uzushio, representing Awaji Island, is becoming increasingly popular as a tourist destination. This is because it is the closest roadside rest area to the "Naruto Whirlpools" in Japan. The Naruto Strait, which spans between Naruto City in Tokushima Prefecture and Awaji Island, is famous for its "whirlpools" created by the ebb and flow of tides, and is known as one of the three great whirlpools in the world. Here, visitors can use telescopes or stand on observation decks to closely view the renowned "Naruto Whirlpools." Notably, visitors can sit on chairs designed in the shape of local specialty onions, called "Oh! Onion Chairs," and take photos against the backdrop of the magnificent Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, or wear free "onion wigs" to capture fun commemorative photos. In addition, at Michi no Eki Uzushio, one can taste many of Awaji Island's specialty dishes. This includes the "Awaji Island Onion Beef Burger," which won first place in Japan's national local burger awards, and the "White Seafood Rice Bowl - What’s Today’s Ingredient?" which exclusively uses white fish from local catches. Michi no Eki Uzushio brings together local specialty products from Awaji Island, a wide variety of souvenirs, and various delicious foods, making it an attractive spot where visitors can buy local products and enjoy gourmet cuisine.
