📝 Introduction

Experience the history and culture of Ise while enjoying the pleasures of food and shopping in this charming town.

📖 Details

In front of the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu, there is a street called "Yaku Yochō." It attracts a large number of worshippers every year, creating a lively atmosphere. It is said that this small town earned its name "Yaku Yochō" because many people known as "Oshi" lived here during the Edo period to the early Meiji period, helping worshippers ward off disasters or performing Kagura. The area also experienced periods of decline, but later, the power lines were buried underground, and the surface was transformed into stone-paved roads. The area, which restored its traditional streetscape, has regained its vitality and is now a charming tourist destination. In the center of Yaku Yochō, there is a district called "Tokuho Yokocho," which was created by relocating and reconstructing buildings from the Edo to Meiji periods along the Ise Road. Among them, the Akafuku Honten is a long-established store with over 300 years of history, where you can enjoy freshly made Akafuku mochi. The traditional Ise Udon at "Fukusuke" is also highly recommended. In Tokuho Yokocho, various festivals and markets are held throughout the changing seasons. Additionally, every Saturday, Sunday, and national holiday, traditional activities such as taiko performances and kamishibai storytelling are featured. Moreover, there are many unique Ise souvenirs available for purchase, allowing visitors to fully enjoy a variety of experiences.
