About Tokachidake Bōgakudai (Tokachidake Viewing Platform)
A viewpoint that overlooks the majestic mountain scenery and the Furano Basin in front.
Details
About 5 kilometers from the Platinum Onsen Street, at an altitude of 930 meters, lies a scenic spot on the middle slopes of Tokachidake. Here, you can closely observe Tokachidake, which is one of the "100 Famous Mountains of Japan." You can see the unique exposed rock formations of this active volcano and the rising volcanic smoke.
In addition to Tokachidake, you can also take in the views of Asahidake, the main peak of the Daisetsuzan mountain range and the highest peak in Hokkaido, as well as the surrounding mountains such as Biei-dake and Biei Fuji. The most well-known feature of the Tokachidake Observation Deck is the 360-degree panoramic view of the cityscapes of Asahikawa and Furano. There is a walking trail of about 1.1 kilometers that takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. During your walk, you can enjoy the delicate alpine plants in summer and the beautiful autumn foliage of the larch and white birch trees. If you're lucky, you might even encounter Ezo red foxes or wild birds.
The site has a parking lot and an observation deck, serving as a base for climbing around Tokachidake. Climbing permits can also be obtained here. Additionally, there is a disaster evacuation shelter that can protect against volcanic debris in the event of an unexpected volcanic eruption, ensuring your safety.
