The nationally designated natural monument "Tsuji Pond" is located on Shimoji Island, a remote island in Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture. It is a mysterious spot resembling a longan fruit. In fact, the two ponds are interconnected underground and also linked to the sea. Its unique structure has become a place of longing for diving enthusiasts.
The pond by the sea has a diameter of 75 meters and a depth of 45 meters, while the pond closer to the land has a diameter of 55 meters and a depth of 25 meters. Entering the pond through a cave from the sea side allows you to witness the rare phenomenon known as "thermocline," where seawater and freshwater mix. The beautiful gradient from cobalt blue seawater to emerald green pond water, caused by different water qualities and temperatures, is sure to touch the heart.
