About Tsutsukura Observatory (SAIRO Observatory)
Take in the stunning natural beauty of the four seasons around Lake Toya.
Details
A breathtaking scenic spot located on the hills west of Lake Toya. From the observation deck with a courtyard, you can overlook Lake Toya and the lush green surface of Nakajima Island, as well as the majestic landscapes formed by volcanic eruptions such as Mount Usu and Showa Shinzan. It is a very popular photo spot, especially with the stunning beauty of sunrises and sunsets.
On both sides of the observation deck, there are vast grassy gardens. The seasonal changes in the garden scenery, such as blooming flowers in spring and autumn leaves, beautifully complement Lake Toya. In winter, the clear waters of Lake Toya do not freeze, showcasing an unparalleled beauty against the backdrop of Nakajima Island and the trees along the lakeshore covered in white snow. The park has resting facilities including a souvenir shop and a café, and the parking lot is equipped with electric vehicle charging stations. This location is a great place to stop while driving from Lake Toya Onsen to Sapporo.
For those wanting to further enjoy the beautiful natural scenery of Lake Toya, aerial cruises are the most popular choice. Sightseeing helicopters take off and land from a nearby helicopter pad, offering an aerial tour with stunning views (not available in winter). Additionally, the snow play area, where activities like sledding and snow rafting are available in winter, is also very popular.
One of the most beloved products is the rich and creamy "Lake Toya Caramel Pudding." This is an original product of the shop, available for takeout at room temperature, making it a top choice for souvenirs.
