🗺️ Uppō Ukiyo-e Museum

📝 Introduction

A museum that offers a glimpse into the artistic world of "Ukiyo-e" (浮世絵).

📖 Details

During the Edo period, the Osaka and Kyoto regions were commonly referred to as "Kamigata," which is the origin of the name. This museum houses and showcases ukiyo-e produced in the Kamigata region. In the four-story museum, on the wall of the staircase leading to the second floor where special exhibitions are held, there is a display board featuring scenes from Dotonbori during the Edo period from the "Setsu no Meisyo Zue." By visiting these displays, you can step into the world of ukiyo-e. The exhibitions on the second and third floors feature approximately 30 selected pieces from the collection, focusing on themes such as famous actors from the late Edo period, including the third generation of Nakamura Utaemon. In addition to regularly held special exhibitions on the fourth floor, there are also displays of the tools used to create ukiyo-e. If you make a reservation three days in advance, you can participate in a ukiyo-e printing experience. There are beginner-friendly three-color printing options as well as more challenging four-color printing techniques, so feel free to give it a try. After fully immersing yourself in the world of Kamigata ukiyo-e, don't forget to visit the museum shop on the first floor. It offers not only ukiyo-e bookmarks and Kabuki charms but also hand towels shaped like the family crests of the Kamigata ukiyo-e museum. Choosing one as a souvenir would be a great idea.
