📖 Details
The Venus Line is a highland road in Nagano Prefecture, approximately 76 kilometers long, with an average altitude of 1,400 meters. This mountainous road runs through the highland area of the "Chūshin Kōgen National Park," starting from the Akebono Tunnel in Chino City, passing through the Tateshina Highlands, Lake Shirakaba, and Mount Kirigamine, and finally connecting to the Minoshirakawa Highlands. It was fully opened for free in 2002, attracting a large number of tourists to enjoy scenic drives.
Along the Venus Line, there are attractions such as Lake Shirakaba and the Karasawa Highlands. At Lake Shirakaba, there are amusement parks, hot springs, and recreational facilities, as well as numerous accommodation options. From the summit of Mount Karasawa, you can take a chairlift to the Karasawa Highlands, where the spectacular views are truly remarkable. Additionally, the scenery from the observation deck "Fujimidai," located between Mount Karasawa and Mount Kirigamine, is also a masterpiece. On clear days, you can see the Yatsugatake Mountains, the Southern Alps, the Central Alps, Mount Ontake, and in the distance, Mount Fuji (there are many observation decks in Japan called Fujimidai, meaning places where you can see Mount Fuji).
If you plan to take a drive along the Venus Line, the peak season is from early July to early August, when alpine plants like the North Daylily adorn the Karasawa and Kirigamine Highlands. You can drive while enjoying the magnificent mountains of the Japanese Alps and beautiful flowers, all while taking in the stunning scenery of the surrounding mountains. The road is also lined with many hot spring facilities and restaurants where you can taste local delicacies, making it a great destination to enjoy the pleasure of driving in the summer.
