Standing by the shores of Lake Shirakaba in Nagano Prefecture, this museum allows visitors to enjoy shadow puppetry, paper cutting, glass artworks, and music boxes all at once. Upon entering, guests are greeted by a fairy tale world that feels like stepping into a picture book.
The "Shadow Puppetry Area" showcases a panoramic series titled "The Four Seasons of Lake Shirakaba," which spans 30 meters, along with 30 works by the world-renowned shadow puppetry artist Seiji Fujishiro. Many precious pieces can be admired here that are only available at this museum.
In another popular section, the "Paper Cutting Art Area," works by the leading figure in the paper cutting art world, Masakazu Tatsumi, are displayed. There are also pieces inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, as well as the world's largest washi paper cuttings, "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Snow White." Additionally, there are several dreamlike works created using kimono dyeing techniques.
Furthermore, the museum features antique music boxes renowned worldwide, along with the modern turntable music box "Orpheus," where visitors can listen to its sound quality live, adding to the charm of this museum.
