🗺️ Wuxiao Island Path

📝 Introduction

A rare park in the world where you can view submarines up close.

📖 Details

The Ukoshima Path is one of the components of Japan's heritage "Yokosuka, Kure, Sasebo, and Maizuru - Experience the Vibrant Cities of Japan's Modernization." It allows visitors to feel the historical significance of Kure City, which once thrived as a military port. It is one of the few places in the world where you can observe submarines up close, making it a well-known attraction. The Kure Naval Base was established in Meiji 22 (1889), and a naval factory was set up in Meiji 36 (1903) to build battleships and more. The battleship "Yamato," renowned as the largest battleship in the world, was also secretly constructed here. Today, this area has been developed into a park where you can closely admire the sight of Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force submarines and destroyers docked along the shore. The crane that was originally used for lifting torpedoes during its time as a military port is now preserved in the park as a monument. Additionally, on the mountainside of the park stands the old brick buildings of the former naval factory, allowing visitors to enjoy a nostalgic stroll along the streets.
