About Yamashiro Onsen
A hot spring town loved by many literati throughout history, filled with artistic sentiment.
Details
Yamashiro Onsen, also known as "Onsen Castle Town," is a hot spring street filled with the spirit of onsen culture centered around the main bathhouse. With a history of 1300 years, it has attracted cultural figures such as Akiko Yosano, Kyoka Izumi, and Rosanjin Kitaōji. There are many attractions worth seeing on the hot spring street, such as the "Rosanjin Residence Ruins Iroha-so," where Rosanjin lived for half a year, the Kutaniyaki Museum, and the Ceramic Kiln Museum.
On the hot spring street, there are two public baths. One is "Kozō-yu," which has completely restored the main bathhouse from the Meiji era, recreating the so-called "yubuyu" (hot spring bathing) experience. It resembles an "experiential museum," where you can immerse yourself in the history and culture of onsen while enjoying the baths, thanks to the walls and floors decorated with Kutaniyaki tiles and a cozy lounge atmosphere. The other bath, "Sō-yu," was established to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of the onsen and features 100% undiluted hot spring water. The space is spacious and comfortable.
Surrounding the area are more than 20 inns and hotels, each with its own unique characteristics, allowing guests to enjoy different bathing experiences. Almost all accommodation facilities offer same-day bathing services, making it very interesting to visit each one.
Highlights
It takes only 30 minutes to get from Komatsu Airport to Kaga Onsen Station by bus or JR, making transportation very convenient. There are many museums and galleries related to Kutani ware. In addition to the two public baths, there are many accommodations that offer day-use bathing services, allowing guests to enjoy a variety of hot springs.
