About Yanmei Creek
The magnificent beauty of the valley is woven together by strange rocks and clear streams.
Details
Located in Iwate Prefecture, this scenic area is designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument. The Iwai River, originating from Mount Kurikoma, has eroded giant rocks to form a stretch of approximately 2 kilometers of unique rock formations. The distinctive cliffs and the beautiful emerald green river create a dynamic landscape that captivates countless visitors.
Upstream, the rushing waters carve through the rocks, creating a spectacular display of splashes, while downstream, one can see tranquil and deep abysses. This variety of special scenery at different locations is one of the most appealing features of the Yanbiki River. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom; in summer, fresh greenery appears; in autumn, the leaves turn red; and in winter, the landscape is adorned with snow, showcasing the different beauty of each season.
After enjoying the breathtaking views of Yanbiki River, be sure to try the famous "Hiten Dango" (飛天糰子). The purchasing method involves placing cash in a bamboo basket on the cliff, ringing a wooden board that signifies ordering, and then the tea house across the river will slide the dango and tea over via a rope. The dango comes in three flavors: red bean, black sesame, and soy sauce.
Highlights
