About YOKOSUKA Naval Base Cruise

Visit the fleet of vessels docked at Yokosuka Port on a cruise from the sea.

Details

Since Commodore Perry's arrival 170 years ago, Yokosuka Port has developed into a military port. The "YOKOSUKA Military Port Cruise" is a tour that allows visitors to view the ships docked at Yokosuka Port from the sea. Every day, cruise boats circle around the U.S. Navy's 7th Fleet base at Yokosuka Port, as well as the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force headquarters at Nagai Port, providing close-up views of various vessels from the water. These cruise boats are equipped with special fog-resistant glass cabins and a covered second deck, allowing passengers to see Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyers and U.S. Navy Aegis combat ships during the approximately 45-minute cruise. If the timing is right, you might also spot rare vessels such as Antarctic research icebreakers and submarines. Onboard, specially dressed guides provide live commentary, sharing fascinating tidbits about the ships, as well as the history and tourist information of Yokosuka. At the Shioiri Pier, where the cruise begins and ends, there are shops selling original merchandise shaped like ships, curry cooking packs, snacks, and other items. Many products feature packaging designs unique to Yokosuka, making them perfect as souvenirs.

Highlights
