About ANDO MUSEUM

A museum that encapsulates Tadao Ando's architectural aesthetics.

Details

The ANDO MUSEUM is located in the Honmura area of Naoshima, Kagawa Prefecture. It is an art museum transformed from a century-old wooden house by architect Tadao Ando. The interior features clear concrete walls, a hallmark of Ando's style, which brings vitality to the old wooden structure. The renovation preserves the original appearance of the ancient building while cleverly integrating modern architectural design elements inside. Through the overlapping of contrasting elements such as past and present, wood and concrete, light and darkness, Ando's architectural aesthetics are fully presented here. The museum showcases Tadao Ando's career trajectory, along with photographs, drawings, and architectural models related to his designs on Naoshima, as well as materials introducing the history of Naoshima. This ancient building, given new life, and the artistically aesthetic space itself is a work of art that is well worth visiting. In the "ANDO MUSEUM Shop," in addition to selling books about Tadao Ando and various original merchandise, visitors can also purchase items featuring Ando's signature and sketches.
