About Awaji Expressway Service Area

A highway service area featuring attractions such as the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, a Ferris wheel, and sculptures of lovers' sacred places.

Details

The Awaji Highway Service Area is located at the foot of the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, featuring a scenic viewpoint with excellent views and numerous photo spots. You can use the selfie stand of the highway mascot "WATARU" to capture fantastic photos with the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge in the background. Vehicles can turn around within the facility, allowing free movement between the two service areas on the up and down lines without exiting the highway. The down line service area not only has a Ferris wheel but also offers a great spot to enjoy views of the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge, the Kobe cityscape, the Akashi Strait, and a panoramic view of Osaka Bay. The most striking feature of the up line service area is a sculpture called "Heart Light Gate." Golden sunlight filters through the holes in the sculpture's roof, casting countless heart-shaped light spots, and the romantic sculpture is referred to by locals as a "lovers' sanctuary." Through this heartfelt sculpture, you can take photos that seem to frame the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge. Additionally, the "Bridge Hill Gallery" within the facility showcases many art pieces worth seeing. Both the up and down line service areas have restaurants and gourmet zones where you can enjoy specialty dishes made with local ingredients such as Awaji Island's famous "Awaji Onion" and "Awaji Beef," and you can purchase a variety of souvenirs in the shops. From both service areas, you can directly access the "Awaji Highway Oasis Park," allowing you to leisurely spend an entire day here without leaving the highway.
