🎌 Calbee Takoyaki Flavor Shrimp Chips

📝 Introduction

Snacks that are convenient to eat while traveling are also great as souvenirs.

📖 Details

Calbee's Takoyaki-flavored shrimp chips have been beloved by consumers since their launch in 1964, known for being "irresistible and addictive." Made from a blend of various wild shrimp species, including creek shrimp, mantis shrimp, red shrimp, and northern red shrimp, the chips are made with whole shrimp, shells included, providing a rich source of calcium. They are baked instead of fried, resulting in a crispy texture. This long-selling shrimp chip features local flavors from various regions in Japan. In the Kansai region, the popular flavor is that of Osaka's famous takoyaki. The mildly tangy sauce flavor, combined with the aroma of pickled ginger, seaweed powder, and bonito flakes, makes it a highly sought-after souvenir from Kansai. You can find them for sale at various locations such as Kansai International Airport, the lobby shops at Shin-Osaka Station, and both short-term and long-term rest areas on highways. If you see them, be sure not to miss out!

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I return or exchange the product if there is a problem after opening?

A: Please send the defective product to our company (shipping costs will be covered by us), and include the name of the store where you purchased it, along with the purchase date. The postal code is 100-0005, 1-8-3 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, 22nd Floor, Marunouchi Trust Tower Main Building, Calbee Inc. Customer Service Room.

Q: Can it be purchased abroad as well?

A: Sorry, that service is not available.

Q: Why is it called "Kappa Ebi Sen" (河童蝦條)?

A: "Kappa" is a legendary creature that has been beloved by the Japanese people since ancient times. In the 1950s (1945-1954), the late artist Kun Shimizu created the comic "Kappa Paradise," which became a sensation in Japan. At that time, our company (Calbee) was experimenting with making snacks from wheat flour. We asked Mr. Shimizu to illustrate the "Kappa" character for our product packaging, and it became part of the "Kappa Snacks" series, which was well-received by many customers. When we started selling the product in 1964, the packaging design featured shrimp as the main character, so the image of the "Kappa" was not included. However, the name has been retained to this day, and "Kappa Shrimp Chips" has become a representative snack brand of our company, beloved by customers and widely recognized.
