About Dream Suspension Bridge
A suspension bridge spanning across the jade-green surface of the lake.
Details
The famous attraction in Shizuoka Prefecture, "Tsukitoge Gorge," is known as the last hidden gem of the largest river in Shizuoka, the "Oigawa." The "Yume no Tsuribashi" (Dream Suspension Bridge) is the landmark of Tsukitoge Gorge. The lake beneath the suspension bridge was formed during the construction of the "Oma Dam" in the Tsukitoge River basin.
The blue color of the lake is due to a physical phenomenon known as the "Tyndall effect." The principle is that when a beam of light enters a body of high-quality water, only the shorter wavelengths of blue light can be reflected, and the crystal-clear streams of Tsukitoge Gorge perfectly meet this physical condition. Additionally, depending on the weather and the angle of light, the lake surface can also appear emerald green and cobalt blue. After crossing the suspension bridge and walking upstream to the "Hiryū Bridge," you can overlook the dreamlike suspension bridge from above.
The area around the suspension bridge boasts picturesque natural landscapes throughout the four seasons. In spring, you can see mountain cherry blossoms, plateau azaleas, sheep laurel, flowering quince, and wisteria. In autumn, it is a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves, with the flowers, grasses, and trees surrounding the bridge weaving together a breathtaking scene with the blue lake, resembling a beautiful picture from a dream, hence the name "Yume no Tsuribashi."
Moreover, there is the historically renowned "Tsukitoge Onsen" (Tsukitoge Hot Spring) nearby. After a stroll, you can come here to soak in the hot springs and relieve the fatigue of your journey.
Highlights
With the changes in weather and the angle of light, the lake surface displays colors such as emerald green and cobalt blue. The blue color of the water is due to a physical phenomenon called the "Tyndall effect," which occurs only under conditions of exceptionally high water quality. In spring, there are mountain cherry blossoms, and in autumn, the maple leaves turn red, creating a dreamlike beauty together with the azure lake surface. There are many steep and slippery areas on the road, so it is recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes. Nearby, there is the Tsunetani Gorge Onsen, known as the "Beauty Hot Spring."
