🗺️ Funakoshi Observatory船越展望所

The "Ninety-Nine Islands" consists of a total of 208 islands. This location, which offers a view of the island scenery, is also one of the "Eight Views of Ninety-Nine Islands" selected by Sasebo City in Nagasaki Prefecture. The complex coastline is dotted with many small bays, and an observation deck has been set up in a place where visitors can overlook the coastline of the bay, making it one of the areas with the highest density of islands in Japan. In addition to its beautiful scenery on sunny days, the views on rainy days are also elegantly reminiscent of ink wash paintings. Furthermore, during the cold season from late January to March, there is a chance to observe the migratory cranes returning north. The flocks of cranes travel from their wintering grounds in Kagoshima Prefecture to their breeding grounds in Siberia, passing over the skies of Ninety-Nine Islands, attracting amateur photographers and bird watchers eager to catch a glimpse of their graceful presence. The site is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring no steps, allowing visitors in wheelchairs to easily enjoy the area.
