About Gifu Castle
Standing tall at the top of Mount Jinhua, the stronghold of Oda Nobunaga in his quest to unify the realm.
Details
Gifu Castle is built on the summit of Mount Kinka, which stands at an elevation of 329 meters, and is a symbol of Gifu City. During the Sengoku period, Saito Dosan used Gifu Castle as his residence, and later, Oda Nobunaga became the lord of the castle, using it as the headquarters for his unification of the country. As a result, Gifu Castle became well-known.
The current Gifu Castle was reconstructed in Showa 31 (1956), and the interior features an exhibition room themed around Nobunaga and Gifu Castle. From the observation deck on the top floor, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. Additionally, there is a seasonal event called "Gifu Castle Night View" held on summer nights (please refer to the official website for specific dates).
There is a hiking trail leading to the summit of Mount Kinka, but it is recommended to take the "Kinka Mountain Ropeway," which takes about 4 minutes to travel from the foot of the mountain to the top. Furthermore, at the summit, there are attractions such as "Kinka Mountain Squirrel Village" and the "Gifu Castle Museum," which can be visited alongside Gifu Castle.
Highlights
Standing atop Kinkasan Mountain, it is a landmark of Gifu City. It is famous for being the castle where Saito Dosan and Oda Nobunaga once lived. Inside the castle, there is a historical exhibition room, and the top floor serves as an observation room. The limited-time night view viewing events are quite popular. It is recommended to take the mountain cable car for the most convenient access.
