About Hachiman-zaka (Hachiman Slope)
Alongside the night view of Mount Hakodate, it is one of the top viewing spots in Hakodate.
Details
In its early days, Hakodate Hachiman Shrine was located at the mountain's peak, which is why this slope was named "Hachiman-zaka." The beautiful stone-paved road extends straight towards the sea, lined with neatly planted street trees, and in the distance, one can see both Hakodate Bay and the memorial ship Mashu Maru, which is docked for display.
Hachiman-zaka runs through the seaside area filled with red brick warehouses, extending all the way to the slope of Mount Hakodate. Along the way to the summit, there are staircases with handrails, and in winter, the pathway is equipped with road geothermal heating, allowing people of all ages and fitness levels to enjoy a leisurely walk, making it one of Hakodate's most popular slopes.
Additionally, during winter, the "Hakodate Neon Lights" event decorates the street trees and stone-paved road with dazzling lights. The night view of Hachiman-zaka is equally impressive compared to the night view from Mount Hakodate, and many people come specifically to experience the unique night scenery of Hachiman-zaka.
Highlights
The street trees and the beautiful view of Hakodate visible through the stone-paved road have appeared in advertisements many times. Hachiman-zaka is a slope that extends from the seaside all the way up to Mount Hakodate. The scenery of Hakodate illuminated by neon lights in winter is breathtaking.
