About Hamamatsu Castle Park
Surrounded by a green park that was once the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Details
Hamamatsu Castle was the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu before he achieved dominance over Japan. Although it is located in the center of Hamamatsu City, the castle is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a great place for citizens to relax.
The park covers an area of about 10 hectares and features seasonal flowers that are pleasing to the eye throughout the year, serving as a treasure of nature. Especially in spring, around 400 cherry blossom trees, including the Somei Yoshino variety, bloom beautifully, making it one of the top cherry blossom viewing spots in the city. From late March to early April, there are nighttime illuminations, and the sight of the cherry blossoms at night alongside Hamamatsu Castle is breathtaking.
Next to the castle, there is a Japanese garden designed in a deep mountain style, which showcases different seasonal beauties such as fresh greenery and weeping cherry trees in spring, and colorful leaves in autumn.
Hamamatsu Castle, which has protected this land, has rebuilt its main keep on the stone walls that date back over 400 years. Inside, there are exhibits related to the castle and the castle town, and from the top floor, visitors can enjoy views of Hamamatsu City, Enshunada Sea, and Lake Hamana. Additionally, there is a central lawn area that attracts large crowds for walking or picnicking on weekends, as well as a tea room called "Shouin-tei" where guests can enjoy tea service (for a fee) while appreciating the garden. It is conveniently accessible on foot from Hamamatsu Station.
