📖 Details
The Isumi Railway officially opened in 1988 (Showa 63) and runs along the Isumi River on the eastern side of the Boso Peninsula. There are a total of 14 stations from the starting point to the endpoint, with a total length of 26.8 kilometers, serving as a means of transportation for the local community for many years. Along the railway line, there are energy spots such as "Izumo Taisha Choso Church" and "Kuniyoshi Shrine," as well as many tourist attractions like the "Natural Gas Memorial Museum" and "Otaki Castle." Sitting in a small train with only one driver, passengers can feel the joy of passing by nature with the gentle swaying of the train, and can also get off midway to experience the rural charm of the areas along the route up close.
Various tourist express trains of the Isumi Railway operate regularly on weekends and national holidays. Among travelers, the restaurant train (16,000 yen per person, reservation required) is a popular topic. The most sought-after itinerary features a luxurious meal served on an old-fashioned diesel train from the Showa era. Passengers can enjoy the natural scenery outside the window while savoring gourmet dishes meticulously prepared by chefs from nearby restaurants, indulging in a unique travel experience.
The railway bento of Isumi Railway is the best companion for a train journey. Bentos are sold only at "Oohara" station on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. Although there are many varieties of bento, due to limited quantities, it is recommended to make a reservation by phone in advance.
