About Kabukiza Theatre

A specialized theater suitable for first-time viewers of Kabuki performances.

Details

Kabuki is a traditional performing art of Japan. Although performances are held in theaters across the country, the most magnificent and famous stage is the Kabukiza, a theater dedicated to Kabuki. Kabukiza is a large four-story building with over 1,800 seats, and the repertoire changes monthly. Many people might think that attending a Kabuki performance is a cumbersome task, but it is not so. At Kabukiza, you can enjoy the experience of watching Kabuki easily and affordably by attending a single act through the "Ichimaku Miseki" (one-act seating). Kabukiza officially opened in 1889 and has undergone several reconstructions; the current building is the fifth generation theater. Kabukiza, along with the high-rise office building behind it, the "Kabukiza Tower," forms a complex facility centered around the theater called "GINZA KABUKIZA." On the fifth floor of the Kabukiza Tower, there is the "Kabukiza Exhibition Hall," which showcases costumes and props used on stage, allowing for a deeper understanding of the cultural charm of Kabuki.
