About Kakitada River Spring Group (Kakitada River Park)
One of Japan's three major clear streams, formed by a group of spring waters filtered through the strata from melted snow from Mount Fuji.
Details
Kakita River is a clear stream that quietly flows beside National Route 1 and has been designated as a national natural monument. The Kakita River spring water group is famous for its springs formed by the filtration of melted snow from Mount Fuji, and it has been selected as one of the "One Hundred Famous Waters of Japan" and one of the "One Hundred Best Natural Landscapes in Japan to Preserve in the 21st Century." It is now developed into Kakita River Park for visitors to explore.
Kakita River Park features well-maintained walking paths, allowing visitors to stroll while enjoying the lush greenery of nature, as well as the unique algae "Mishima Plum Blossom Algae" that grows in the local rivers, along with rare creatures such as Genji fireflies and kingfishers. It is a great place for picnics and leisurely walks on holidays.
There are many shops around Kakita River Park where you can buy locally produced rice bran and green rice, as well as local specialties made using Kakita River spring water.
Highlights
The daily spring water output is about 1.2 million tons. It is one of the "Top 100 Famous Waters in Japan," and you can drink the spring water at the water intake site of the Kakita River spring. The water temperature remains around 15 degrees Celsius year-round, refreshing and pleasant in the summer, and not too cold in the winter. There is a spring water plaza in the park where you can dip your feet to feel the coolness of the spring water and carefully observe the "spring water area" where water continuously gushes from the riverbed. Behind Kakita River Park is a branch of the Kifune Shrine in Kyoto, dedicated to the water deity and the deity of marriage, and it is recommended to pay a visit while you are there.
