About Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History
The museum introduces the 4.6 billion-year history of Earth, showcasing a variety of precious physical specimens.
Details
The Life Star: Earth Museum presents and explains the 4.6 billion-year history of Earth in a simple and clear manner. The permanent exhibition is themed "Life Star: Earth" and consists of four exhibition rooms: "Thinking about Earth," "Thinking about Life," "Thinking about the Natural Environment of Kanagawa," and "Thinking about Nature and Coexistence."
From meteorites and ammonite fossils to insects just a few millimeters long and giant dinosaurs, the museum houses approximately 10,000 specimens for close viewing. It also uses geological layers and fossils to explain how the land of Kanagawa was formed, making it quite worth a visit. Different periods feature special exhibitions with varying themes or creatively planned special projects.
The museum also includes a library where visitors can freely browse books and magazines about nature. Additionally, the theater within the museum screens various videos that provide deeper explanations of the permanent exhibitions.
After visiting the museum, you can take a break at the restaurant, where you can enjoy a meal while overlooking dinosaur fossils. Alternatively, you can relax in the terrace area and try unique dishes like "Dinosaur Red Wine Beef Risotto" or "Geological Layer Parfait," which are creatively themed around the exhibitions. On your way back, you can stop by the museum's souvenir shop to purchase original products and gifts.
