🗺️ Kawasaki City Japanese Folk House Museum

📝 Introduction

A must-visit sanctuary for retro enthusiasts! An outdoor museum that recreates the Edo period.

📖 Details

Kawasaki City’s Nihon Minka-en opened in 1967 and is an outdoor museum representing ancient Japanese houses. The museum features 25 relocated buildings, including traditional houses from the Edo period, which are on display and designated as Japanese cultural heritage. Visitors can explore ancient houses built approximately 100 to 300 years ago, as well as traditional structures like Kabuki stages. Many of the old houses still have their irori (hearth) lit, allowing visitors to truly experience the lifestyle of ancient Japan. The spacious grounds offer cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer, and autumn leaves in fall, providing a beautiful setting to enjoy the changing seasons while walking. In addition to hosting various events showcasing traditional Japanese arts, the museum also has a free-entry Traditional Crafts Hall, where visitors can experience indigo dyeing (for a fee) after touring the ancient houses.
