Details
The Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum is a dome-shaped museum located on a small hill near the epicenter of the atomic bomb drop. It preserves and displays 1,500 related materials and artifacts from that time. The exhibition features a storytelling style that illustrates the tragedy brought by nuclear weapons, the history of nuclear weapons, and a strong desire for world peace.
The permanent exhibition room is themed "August 9, 1945," showcasing what Nagasaki looked like before the bomb was dropped. A clock frozen at 11:02 tells the story of that moment when the bomb was released. In the "Damage Caused by the Atomic Bomb" section, the exhibition displays the burning streets of Nagasaki after the bomb fell, as well as large artifacts such as a water supply tank and a fire lookout tower that were directly affected. The extent of the damage is starkly evident from melted glass and other items, including a church, caused by the intense heat and flames.
In the "A World Without Nuclear Weapons" section, the history of war is presented in a timeline format, explaining the circumstances that led to the dropping of the atomic bomb. It also introduces the latest nuclear weapons that are still being developed today, emphasizing the importance of abolishing nuclear weapons. In the audiovisual room, visitors can experience the conditions at the time of the atomic bomb through video footage. Additionally, there is a quiz area about the atomic bomb, allowing both children and adults to learn about atomic bomb knowledge in detail.
