Details

The Nakagawa Aquatic Park in Tochigi Prefecture is the only aquarium in Tochigi Prefecture and is also the largest river aquarium in Japan. Inside the facility, there are about 60 tanks, including the Nakagawa River, known as the clearest stream in the Kanto region flowing through Tochigi Prefecture, as well as the Amazon River and the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Visitors can see approximately 300 species and 20,000 individual creatures. The aquarium also showcases fish from tourist spots like Lake Chūzenji, allowing visitors to understand these attractions from a different perspective. One of the most impressive features of the Nakagawa Aquarium is the 360° panoramic tunnel tank that recreates the Amazon River. Here, visitors can see around 100 species of Amazonian creatures, such as piranhas and arapaima, swimming overhead, providing a unique experience that feels as if one is at the bottom of the Amazon River. Additionally, the park has fishing ponds and fish-catching pools, offering a variety of engaging activities. There are also plazas filled with seasonal flowers and amusement facilities, making it a place where families can enjoy themselves together. After a fun-filled day, visitors can take a break at the "Amazon Café" or the handmade soba restaurant "Yuzukami Shokudo." After exploring and playing, it is recommended to visit the aquarium shop or the local direct sales store for fresh vegetables to purchase souvenirs.
