About Nissay Theatre

Enjoy stage performances in the theater designed by Togo Murano.

Details

In 1963, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Nippon Life, a theater was opened in the "Nippon Life Hibiya Building." It is the first theater in Japan to host international opera performances and the historical site of the first Broadway show in Japan. Today, it is used for musicals, dramas, and operas. The theater was designed by architect Togo Murano and is highly regarded among representative buildings of the Showa era. Its solemn exterior and interior contrast with the curvaceous seating and spiral staircase, showcasing unique craftsmanship in its design. The luxurious decorations, such as the white marble floor and the red carpet that extends to the seating, enhance the anticipation and excitement of attending a performance. This theater is a vibrant hub for stage arts, regularly presenting the "Nissay Masterpiece Series," which features free musical and theatrical performances suitable for teenagers, as well as family-friendly events like the "Nissay Theater Carnival."
