About Oshuku Onsen
Relax your body and mind in a famous hot spring with a 450-year history deep in the mountains.
Details
The Utsukushigahara Onsen opened 450 years ago. According to legend, a tree warbler soaked in the hot spring that gushed between the rocks, and its injured foot healed, giving the onsen its name. It is about a 30-minute drive from the center of Morioka City, following the Utsukushigahara River to the hot spring town in the mountains, which offers a variety of accommodations including resort hotels, guesthouses, and ryokans that provide therapeutic baths, allowing visitors to choose based on their needs.
The hot spring has a rich supply, with a flow rate of over three hundred tons per minute. The source water temperature is relatively high, around 57 to 62°C. The water quality is a sulfur spring beneficial for skin health, which can not only improve chronic illnesses and skin conditions but also promote recovery after illness. Due to the spring's ability to quickly penetrate the skin, the recommended bathing method is to soak for short periods repeatedly, and it is advised not to soak for too long.
For a single bathing experience, it is recommended to visit the town-operated public bath. The hot spring town also features a relaxation spot, "Utsukushigahara Onsen Park," which has a free foot bath available for use.
