The Sakurajima Visitor Center is located about a 10-minute walk from the Sakurajima Ferry Terminal. It introduces Sakurajima, which is designated as part of the "Sakurajima-Kinko Bay Geopark," and Kirishima Kinko Bay National Park through images and three-dimensional models.
The center is divided into seven areas. There is a "Theater" equipped with a large 200-inch screen, showcasing stunning images and sounds of the Showa crater, which erupted hundreds of times each year in the 2010s, allowing visitors to experience volcanic eruptions in the "Eruption Image Area." It also displays models of lava flow and geological cross-sections from Sakurajima's eruptions, as well as intricately recreated three-dimensional models of Sakurajima, providing a deep understanding of the history and nature of Sakurajima and its surroundings through a wealth of exhibits.
The center's shop sells camellia oil, Sakurajima specialty products, and original merchandise from the visitor center. The visitor center offers abundant tourist information, making it a great place to stop by before exploring Sakurajima.
