🍜 Sei Unagi Bento Ueno Store Miyajimaguchi Main Store

📝 Introduction

The long-standing restaurant sign "Hoshian" at Miyajimaguchi has a long line, and whether you take out a bento or eat in the restaurant, it's delicious.

📖 Details

The "Hoshian Rice Unagi Ueno (Anago Meshi Ueno)" at Miyajimaguchi is an old establishment founded in the 34th year of the Meiji era (1901). The signature dish of this renowned restaurant is the Hoshian rice unagi, developed by the founder Ueno Tanin, which is sold in a bento-style format. The thick and substantial unagi is grilled over a low flame and seasoned with a secret sauce that has been continuously refined since the restaurant's inception, making the "Hoshian Rice" extraordinarily delicious. The white rice, cooked in a soy sauce made from a broth simmered with unagi bones, is rich in the fresh flavor of unagi. Enjoying the piping hot, freshly made Hoshian rice unagi and the fully flavored unagi bento in the restaurant offers distinct experiences, with both dishes being exceptionally rich and aromatic. The restaurant also serves white grilled unagi that pairs well with sake, as well as limited-edition sushi rolls available on specific days of the week. As a popular restaurant that does not accept reservations, the waiting area is often packed. If you want to taste the delicious offerings of this old establishment, it is recommended to arrive early to queue before opening, or purchasing takeout bento (which can be reserved one month in advance) is also a good option. Located on the second floor of the restaurant, "Tanin Kichi" offers Hoshian rice set meals and courses, and reservations can be made (closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays).
