About Shibamata HAIKARA Yokocho & Shibamata Toy Museum

Surrounded by retro toys and nostalgic snacks, it brings one back to the world of childhood innocence.

Details

From the direction of Keisei Shibamata Station towards the approach to Daishōji Temple, you can see a rather childlike building. The owner has felt that the traditional snack shops and toys of Katsushika Ward symbolize children's culture since childhood, and this sentiment materialized in 2004 as "Shibamata HAIKARA Yokocho & Shibamata Toy Museum." It is common to see visitors heading to Daishōji Temple taking photos of the retro exterior of the first and second floors as a memento. The first floor features "Shibamata HAIKARA Yokocho," where you can purchase traditional snacks, small goods, and experience the fun of festivals. The interior is filled with a nostalgic Showa retro atmosphere, with traditional snacks everywhere, making it hard to resist picking some to take home. Walking towards the back of the store, you can find many toys and miscellaneous goods. Here, you can also play nostalgic arcade games, or experience the traditional "shooting game" for just 300 yen. The second floor, "Shibamata Toy Museum," showcases many game machines from the Showa era that are hard to find today, evoking nostalgia (there is an entrance fee of 200 yen for the second floor). Including retro game machines that you can actually play for just 10 yen, the entire space recreates the gaming culture of Japanese children. One corner of the space features a retro Japanese home, offering a glimpse into the living patterns of old Japan. The first and second floors each showcase different charms, making it a toy kingdom from the Showa era. It is recommended to visit here when you go to pay your respects at Daishōji Temple.
