The visitor center located next to Lake Shikotsu, known for its transparent clarity, has the theme "Into the Forest, Mountains, and Lakes: Embark on a Different Journey at Lake Shikotsu." It introduces the history of Lake Shikotsu through images, models, and more, showcasing the appearance of the active volcano that continues to be active today, as well as the ecology of the surrounding wildlife. The thoughtful addition is that the visuals are available in multiple languages. In 2020, VR glasses were introduced. Through VR images, visitors can enter restricted areas such as the Moss Cave, the shores of Lake Okoanpe, and even the depths of Lake Shikotsu, which has received high praise from tourists. Additionally, various activities are regularly held to deeply explore the rich nature of Lake Shikotsu. By participating in observation events, mountain climbing, and other activities, one can gain a deeper understanding of the enchanting charm of Lake Shikotsu (prior registration is required for participation). At the entrance of the center, two brown bear specimens greet visitors, and there is a service desk equipped with walking maps of the Lake Shikotsu area, making it a must-visit stop before embarking on a sightseeing tour of Lake Shikotsu.
