Tōgō-ji is a Nichiren Buddhist temple established to honor the famous Japanese naval commander Tōgō Heihachirō. It is said that the renowned director Akira Kurosawa used the grand mountain gate of Tōgō-ji as a prototype for the set design in his masterpieces such as "Rashomon," which won numerous awards at international film festivals like the Venice Film Festival, and the later acclaimed film "The Hidden Fortress" (美女と泥棒, Bijin to Dorobō) among others.
In spring, the breathtaking sight of weeping cherry blossoms blooming around the mountain gate captivates countless visitors.
