About Togoshi Ginza Shopping Street
The longest shopping street in Tokyo. Along the 1.3-kilometer-long street, there are about 400 shops lined up on both sides.
Details
Togoshi Ginza Shopping Street extends in both east and west directions from the Tokyu Ikegami Line's "Togoshi Ginza" station, with a total length of 1.3 kilometers. Approximately 400 shops line the street, offering a wide variety of goods from vegetable and fruit vendors, fresh fish and meat shops, to cafes, bakeries, and even traditional Japanese bathhouses, providing a diverse shopping experience.
Togoshi Ginza Shopping Street is the longest shopping street in the Tokyo area. It was named "Togoshi Ginza" because, after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923, the rubble from the then "Ginza Street" was reused during the construction of Togoshi Shopping Street. This name also reflects the hope that the shopping street would prosper like the bustling district of "Ginza." It is said that Togoshi Ginza was one of the first shopping streets in Japan to adopt the "○○ Ginza" name.
"Togoshi Ginza Korokke" is a specialty of the shopping street, with many shops selling their own unique versions of korokke (croquettes). Visitors can stroll through the nostalgic streets of the downtown area while tasting different flavors of korokke. The shopping street's mascot, "Togoshi Ginjirou" (nicknamed "Little Gin"), serves as the street's promotional ambassador, actively participating in various events and adding vibrancy and fun to the shopping street. There are also several shops selling merchandise related to Togoshi Ginjirou.
