📝 Introduction

Enjoy traditional Japanese tea in a historic building filled with charm.

📖 Details

The tea house "Kissa Yurin" was established in 1717 and has a history of over 300 years. It is part of the store "Yanoen," which was once a small workshop for brewing and preserving sake, soy sauce, and miso. This traditional kura-style building was constructed in 1928 and is located in the old streets of the Kiryu Shinmachi area, which is designated as an important traditional building preservation district. It is now also recognized as an important traditional building of Kiryu City. In addition to selling tea leaves, rice, and sake, Yanoen has established Kissa Yurin as a tea house. The prominent "Kirin Beer (キリンビール)" sign at the entrance is very eye-catching, and as you walk to the back of the store, you will find the tea house. The kura-style building of Yanoen Kissa Yurin has been designated as an important cultural property of Kiryu. The Japanese tea offered by the long-established store Yanoen is naturally delicious. Here, you can taste several types of Japanese tea, including "Yurin," "Kura Akari (蔵あかり)," "Wakocha," "Hojicha," and "Genmaicha," with a total of five varieties to choose from. In particular, the signature "Kura Akari (蔵あかり)" is a favorite among local tea enthusiasts, with its rich and fragrant taste receiving high praise. All Japanese teas, whether served hot or cold, are sure to satisfy. The tea house at the back of the store offers a unique charm in contrast to the ancient appearance. Additionally, don't be surprised; after enjoying your tea, you can take home a ceramic tea cup engraved with the Yanoen family crest as a souvenir for free! If you visit a second time and show your tea cup, you will receive a discount on your second cup. For those who love Japanese tea, it's recommended to order a few varieties to savor. Also, in addition to the exquisite Japanese tea, the coffee is exceptional too! Here, you can enjoy "Horizon Coffee" from the coffee brand HORIZON LABO. This is the work of Mr. Hibiki Iwano, who has been engaged in coffee roasting since his youth and hails from Kiryu. While enjoying your tea, you will be served small snacks like dorayaki or monaka. After your tea experience, you can take home the ceramic tea cup as well! Yanoen Kissa Yurin, infused with the historical charm of Kiryu, invites you to come and savor authentic Japanese tea or coffee after strolling through the old streets of Kiryu, and spend a perfect moment.
