Minamiaso Village
About Yishin Park
A park symbolized by the "Isshinkyō Ōsakura," which is approximately 400 years old.
Details
Located in a prime spot with a great view of the Aso Five Peaks and the outer ring mountains, the park features a spectacular 400-year-old Yoshino cherry tree known as "Isshinkyō Dai-zakura," which is a local symbol. This cherry tree, standing about 14 meters tall, is said to be the Bodhi tree at the burial site of the lord of Yazaki Castle, Bōki no Kami Tadayuki. During the best cherry blossom viewing period from late March to late April, the "Minami Aso Cherry Tree Planting Festival" is held. When in full bloom, there are nighttime illuminations that attract large numbers of visitors. In front of the massive cherry tree, there is a vast field of rapeseed flowers, creating a beautiful and charming spring landscape.
This area is also a well-known sunflower viewing spot, with around 30,000 sunflowers blooming in the western flower fields in August. Near the Isshinkyō Dai-zakura, there is a 27-hole park golf course where visitors can enjoy the fun of ground golf. Please note that the park is closed during and around the "Minami Aso Cherry Tree Planting Festival."
