From "Kobuchizawa Station" in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, to "Kozu Station" in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture, the "JR Koumi Line" stretches a total of 78.9 kilometers. The third station from Kobuchizawa Station is Kiyosato Station, and between the fourth station, Nobeyama Station, it reaches an elevation of 1,375 meters, making it the highest point on any JR line in Japan. Among the top ten JR stations in Japan ranked by elevation, nine are located on the Koumi Line, with Nobeyama Station standing out as the highest JR station at an elevation of 1,345.67 meters.
The wooden sign at the station front, indicating the highest JR station, is a great photo spot. The platform also features three mini signs worth searching for. This station is also a model for "Eco Station," emphasizing environmental sustainability, utilizing solar power and high insulation devices. Additionally, there are decorative panels made from local larch showcasing the surrounding forests, and a light-sensitive ink ceiling depicting the summer night sky over Nobeyama that is also worth a look.
In the "Galaxy Park" in front of the station, there is a display of the steam locomotive "C56," which used to operate on the Koumi Line, making it a nice stop to visit as well.
