About Zōbō Ueno Park
600 cherry blossom trees of the Somei Yoshino variety surround the pond, making it a very popular cherry blossom viewing spot, especially during the nighttime illumination events.
Details
A park centered around Ueno Pond, which has a circumference of two kilometers. This location, selected as one of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan," is a famous cherry blossom viewing site where approximately 600 Somei Yoshino cherry trees bloom successively starting from late March, with early April being the best time for viewing. Among them, the cherry blossoms blooming along the roads on the north side of the pond create a charming tunnel-like scenery. The area around Benten Bridge, with its red railings, also showcases a myriad of beautiful views. Snow willow and forsythia flowers bloom simultaneously with the cherry blossoms, enveloping the entire pond in a vibrant and colorful atmosphere.
The nighttime illumination held from late March to late April is one of the most beautiful night cherry blossom spots in the western Japan region. The lantern lights reflecting on the water's surface create a dreamlike scene reminiscent of a fairyland. During the event, numerous food stalls are set up, attracting a large number of tourists. Shobara City in the northern part of Hiroshima Prefecture is known for its later blooming period, which allows for cherry blossom viewing to be staggered compared to other regions.
In the hilly area on the north side of the park, there is the "Hiyoyama Kofun," designated as a historical site in the prefecture, which is a keyhole-shaped tomb from the early Kofun period, along with a literary monument dedicated to the local modern writer Kurata Hyakuzan. The fireworks festival held by the lakeside in summer is also extremely popular.
