About Chikubushima Bridge
A bridge where you can see the three great sunsets of the world.
Details
The Bimawabashi Bridge is located near the mouth of the Kushiro River on the main street of Kushiro City, Hokkaido, and is approximately 120 meters long. It connects the Kushiro Kita Odori and the Oomachi areas of Kushiro City. It is famous for being a viewing spot for one of the world's three great sunsets, where the entire sky is painted in fiery red hues, creating a breathtaking landscape.
Ranked as one of Japan's top 100 bridges, the bridge's railings feature sculptures representing the four seasons. The artists of these seasonal sculptures vary: "Spring" was created by Yasutake Funakoshi, "Summer" by Tadakatsu Sato, "Autumn" by Yoshitatsu Yanagihara, and "Winter" by Arata Hongō.
Kushiro is known as the City of Fog, and the dreamy scenery viewed from Bimawabashi Bridge, shrouded in mist, is also not to be missed.
Highlights
The bridge offers a view of one of the world's three great sunsets. The best seasons to enjoy the sunset are March and September, when fog is less frequent. The four "Seasons of Eastern Hokkaido" representing spring, summer, autumn, and winter are also highly recommended. The thick fog in Kushiro is quite famous, and you can enjoy a beautiful and dreamlike scenery from the Biei Bridge.
