About Edo-Tokyo Museum (江戸東京博物館)
Travel back in time to the Edo period! A museum where you can experience the "essence" of Edo culture.
Details
Due to a large-scale renovation project, the entire museum will be closed from April 1, 2022, until spring 2026 (tentative). The Edo-Tokyo Museum in Tokyo is one of the must-visit popular tourist spots. Here, visitors can experience the history and culture of Edo-period Tokyo, as well as gain insights into the future of Tokyo as a knowledge platform. The permanent exhibitions in the museum focus on the Edo period and use real artifacts and restored models to clearly explain the history and culture of Edo Tokyo over approximately 400 years to visitors. The exhibit hall on the first floor hosts 5 to 6 special exhibitions each year. In addition to themes related to Edo Tokyo's history and culture, previous special exhibitions have included thematic showcases featuring works by renowned artists and writers, such as manga artist Osamu Tezuka (手塚治虫) and Shigeru Mizuki (水木しげる).
