About Enoshima Escalator (江之島 Escar)
The outdoor escalator is an essential part of sightseeing in Enoshima.
Details
The escalator that leads to the summit of Enoshima Island was established in 1959 and is renowned as Japan's first outdoor escalator.
The entire journey is divided into three sections. The first section of the escalator is called "Enoshima LUMINOUS WAY," featuring many uniquely interesting designs. Artistic images are projected on both sides, allowing visitors to experience the joy of feeling as if they are in a dreamlike underwater world while heading to their destination. The exit of the first section leads to the Hama Shrine (边津宫) of Enoshima Shrine, the exit of the second section leads to the Nakatsu Shrine (中津宫) of Enoshima Shrine, and the exit of the third section leads to the Samuel Cocking Garden (塞繆爾·科金花園), where visitors can stroll at their own pace.
Additionally, there are combination tickets that include various sightseeing spots on Enoshima. Besides the tickets for the Enoshima Escar, Samuel Cocking Garden, and Enoshima Sea Candle, there is also the "Enoshima New Enoshima Aquarium Area Pass" (大人3,100日圓) which includes two more attractions: the Iwaya Caves and the New Enoshima Aquarium, making it a great value.
