🎌 Ishikawaya Honpo "KAICHIN"

📝 Introduction

A classic souvenir made by a traditional wagashi shop, shining like a jewel.

📖 Details

Founded between 1830 and 1844 (during the Tenpo era), this traditional wagashi shop has a history of about 170 years. It sells classic traditional souvenirs called KAICHIN, as well as handcrafted jōnamagashi and yakigashi made by skilled artisans. Shining like jewels, KAICHIN is an amber candy made from special kanten (agar) and sugar, naturally dried. In ancient times, there was a colorful toy called "OHAJIKI," which was referred to as "KAICHIN" in the Kanazawa region. The outer layer of the candy is crispy, while the inside has a jelly-like texture, offering a unique mouthfeel. KAICHIN typically has a cute and charming appearance. In addition to the flower and bird shapes sold year-round, seasonal limited editions with festive designs are released during Halloween and Christmas. Furthermore, on the 22nd of each month, there is a limited edition "Cat KAICHIN" (1,080 yen), which is highly recommended as a souvenir. You can purchase them at the Ishikawaya main store and the Kanazawa Hyakubangai Anto store at JR Kanazawa Station.
