The Moto-Ise Kago Shrine, formerly known as "Hōgū," has been dedicated to Toyouke Ōkami since long before the construction of Ise Jingu. During the reign of Emperor Sujin, Amaterasu Ōmikami migrated from Yamato Province and was enshrined here for four years. Later, after the completion of Ise Jingu, Amaterasu Ōmikami and Toyouke Ōkami were moved to Ise Jingu, and this shrine became known as the "Hometown of the Ise Deities." Subsequently, it earned the title "Kago-gū" due to its association with Hikohōmimi no Mikoto, who traveled to Ryugu in a bamboo basket woven from bamboo. The main hall is located behind the worship hall and is constructed in the same style as Ise Jingu. The Aoi Matsuri held in April represents the birth of new deities each year and is said to be a festival that has continued for 2,500 years. Next to the shrine office is the "Mikoto Garden," where the Suikinkutsu produces refreshing sounds. Climbing to the summit of the mountain behind, one can find the Okumiya and Manai Shrine, which preserve the history of Hōgū to this day, passing down the legacy of Toyouke Ōkami and Amaterasu Ōmikami's enshrinement and the sacred water of Manai since its establishment.
