🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
Spend an elegant time enjoying art at Tokyo Station.
📖 Details
Tokyo Station, connecting various transportation hubs, is not just a transit point but also a place for promoting art and culture. In 1988, this gallery was established within the "Marunouchi Station Building." It temporarily closed in 2006 due to station renovation work, but in 2012, the Marunouchi Station Building was restored to its original appearance and designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and the Tokyo Station Gallery reopened within the dome of the station building's north entrance.
The gallery hosts various planned exhibitions, primarily focusing on modern art, with diverse themes ranging from contemporary art to architecture, design, and railways. On the second floor's corridor, there are regular displays featuring models, three-dimensional representations, and photographic materials that introduce the history of the Marunouchi Station Building. Visitors can closely observe the precious building materials used during its construction and the original prototypes of the ceiling reliefs.
Geographically and historically, Tokyo Station holds a central position in Japan, serving as a stage for modern Japanese history that has been refined through multiple eras. The red brick wall exhibition room, embodying this history, showcases the unique presence of the museum.
