Conveying the charm of glass art from the Glass City.

📜 Content

The Toyama Glass Art Museum focuses on modern glass art from both domestic and international sources since 1950, with a collection of over 400 artworks. Located within the six-story complex "TOYAMA KIRARI," it serves as a hub for promoting the charm and infinite possibilities of glass expression, showcasing its various beautiful forms. The entire building, designed by architect Kengo Kuma, resembles a work of glass art itself. The combination of glass, aluminum, and granite creates a dazzling exterior that reflects light at various angles. Inside, slanted light tubes extend from the ceiling, creating a space reminiscent of a forest filled with soft light, further highlighting the beauty of the glass artworks. The permanent exhibition features numerous precious collections gathered over more than thirty years by the city of Toyama, with displays changed periodically. On the sixth floor, the "Glass Art Garden" allows visitors to appreciate the spatial art of modern glass master Dale Chihuly. Additionally, the public space "Glass Art Passage," spanning from the second to the fourth floor, showcases around fifty works by twenty artists with ties to Toyama Prefecture. Each piece is harmoniously interconnected, blending seamlessly into the architectural space.
