🗺️ Chiran Tokko Peace Museum

The history of the Special Attack Base began before the Pacific War, starting with the Army Flight School in Showa 16 (1941). As the situation in Japan deteriorated in the later stages of World War II, ground battles were fought on the front lines of homeland defense in Okinawa. Bomb-laden aircraft launched suicide attacks against American ships appearing in the waters off Okinawa. The Peace Memorial Hall conveys the history of the young lives lost in this operation, as well as the tragedy of war and the preciousness of peace. The hall displays the belongings, photographs, and letters of 1,036 special attack squad members, as well as the special attack aircraft "Shiden," and the "Zero Fighter" salvaged from the seabed. Next to the hall, a replica of the "Triangle Camp," where the special attack squad members spent their final days before launching their attacks, has been recreated. Within the Special Attack Peace Park, where the Special Attack Peace Memorial Hall is located, cherry blossom trees have been planted in memory of the special attack squad members. The "Peace Kannon Hall" houses a statue of Kannon to mourn the spirits of the special attack squad members, along with attractions such as the "Special Attack Warrior Statue," representing the figures of the special attack squad members.

A museum that witnesses the lives of young people in their teens and twenties who fell in war. It also showcases the fighter planes from that time. Understanding is deepened through the explanations of guides (reservation required, available in English) or audio guides. The online museum also features animated explanations provided by curators.
