🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
Like a work of art! The beach is impressive with rocks scattered around like three-dimensional sculptures.
📖 Details
Located on Irabu Island in the Miyako Islands, "Sawada no Hama" is a stunning beach with clear blue waters. This unique beauty was selected as one of the "Top 100 Beaches in Japan" in 1996. The shallow areas feature calm lagoons, perfect for snorkeling or swimming.
The biggest highlight of the area is the countless reef rocks that were washed ashore during the massive tsunami in 1771. Various sizes of rocks are scattered throughout, creating a unique landscape that is extremely rare. This spot is also famous for its sunset views. The sea, painted golden by the setting sun, and the numerous rocks create an artistic atmosphere. This natural masterpiece is worth seeing.
Additionally, next to the beach, there are traditional fishing methods known as "Uokaki." Coral reefs are piled up to form radiating stone walls from the near shore to the beach, which are submerged during high tide and exposed during low tide. Fish swim into the Uokaki during high tide and cannot escape when the tide recedes due to the narrow exit, making it an ideal time to cast nets for fishing. This fishing method, filled with the wisdom and ingenuity of ancestors, is highly recommended for a personal experience.
