🗺️ Beppu Tower

📝 Introduction

Beppu's landmark tower, with its panoramic views and colorful lights, is extremely popular.

📖 Details

Completed in 1957, it is a symbolic tower of Beppu and is also designated as a national tangible cultural asset. It is one of the towers designed by the world-renowned skyscraper authority, Tachū Naito, and is collectively known as one of the "Six Tower Brothers" along with the Sapporo TV Tower, Tokyo Tower, Nagoya TV Tower, Tsutenkaku, and Hakata Port Tower. In 2023, a large-scale renovation project was carried out. The tower was repainted in the original gray color from when it was built, and a lightning rod was added, maintaining its height of 100 meters, the same as when it was completed. The observation deck on the 16th and 17th floors offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Beppu city and Beppu Bay from 55 meters above ground. The newly established 5th-floor "Kitahama Deck" allows visitors to admire the tower up close. It also features a "Bell of Happiness" and tables that light up at night, making it quite popular among couples. In the evening, Beppu Tower is illuminated, with the light colors changing with the seasons. During events, special versions such as rainbow or pastel colors are introduced. It has been certified as a Class III Night View Heritage by the "Japan Night View Heritage" program.
