📖 Details
The southernmost cape of the Satsuma Peninsula. It is said to be the departure point for Urashima Taro on his journey to the Dragon Palace, hence the nickname "Ryugu Nose." In summer, it is a nesting site for sea turtles, and nearby is the "Ryugu Shrine," which is dedicated to Otohime.
There are walking trails on the island that lead to the tip of the cape. From the west side, you can see the beautiful scenery of Kaimondake, known as "Satsuma Fuji," across the sea, and many visitors consider this view of Kaimondake to be the most beautiful. On clear days, you can also see the islands of Yakushima, Take Island, and Satsuma Iōjima to the south.
The Satsuma Nagasaki Nose Lighthouse on the island was selected as a "Lovers' Lighthouse" in 2018. There are heart-shaped decorations nearby for tourists to take photos, making it a popular photography spot. Additionally, the beautiful view of the sunset sinking into the sea alongside the lighthouse is not to be missed. After your walk, don’t forget to stop by the souvenir shop located in front of the cape.
